When Himaani was studying in India, she matched with Karthik, who was living in Sweden at the time. From the very first conversation, sparks flew. She fell for his simplicity and kindness, while he admired her deep love for rescuing and caring for animals.
In just the first 20 days, they spent hours talking about their vegan journeys, their families, and why having a vegan partner was essential. Their bond grew so strong that Himaani jokingly wished she could meet him the very next day. To her surprise, Karthik made it happen—he booked a 15+ hour flight and landed in Goa less than 24 hours later!
From that moment, everything unfolded like a dream. Within days, they had met each other’s families, received blessings from both sides, and knew in their hearts that they were meant to be together. Just three months later, they celebrated a magical vegan wedding in a Swedish castle on June 1st, 2023, surrounded by friends in person and family joining live from India. To make it even more special, their officiant, Anna, was also vegan—her very first vegan wedding to preside!
Since then, their love has only grown stronger. They had a second ceremony in India, bought their dream home, and are now planning to expand their vegan family from two to three.
Their story feels like a movie—proof that distance and borders mean nothing when love and shared values come first.
Here’s their story in their own words:
“I and Karthu are eternally grateful to Veggly. When I was studying back home in India, I happened to match with Karthu. He was living in Sweden. We both just clicked instantly. I fell in love with his simplicity and for his humble nature, and he loved my love for rescuing and caring for animals. In the first 20 days we spoke all about our vegan journey, our family backgrounds and our need for a vegan partner. We had bonded so perfectly, I expressed how I wish I could just meet him the very next day! And guess what? He actually immediately booked a next-day’s flight to India and flew 15+ hours and landed in Goa the next day!! Just 20 days after we had matched! I mean in today’s world, very few people would do that for love…
The day he came, our joys knew no bounds. We knew strongly in our hearts that we wanted to be together. So I asked him if he wanted to meet my parents, and although nervous, he agreed. I did not know how to tell my parents that I had met him just 20 days ago on a dating app. But, there we were, on the second day of his trip. When my parents met Karthu, they loved how simple and sincere he was. They could see the genuineness in him, and they asked him if he can take me to meet his parents too, so we immediately booked a flight for the next day, and the third day we were meeting his parents. His family were so happy to meet me, they instantly gave us their blessings. Nobody doubted our love or how fast things were going.
The very next day, fourth day, my parents flew to Bangalore to meet his parents! It was so joyful to see our parents bond so quickly just for us. Everything happened in a week! Karthu immediately applied for my visitor visa to come spend time with him in Sweden. I got the visa in a week, and the next three months in Sweden were the happiest! I met all of his friends who accepted me so readily. Most of them are vegan themselves and we bonded.
The last week of my stay, Karthu and I got married in a beautiful castle in Sweden, on 1st June2023, in presence of our friends in Sweden and our entire family in India watching our wedding ceremony live through GMeet! The best part of our wedding was that coincidentally, the magistrate, Anna who was assigned to officiate our wedding was also Vegan! She was over the moon as this was her first time officiating a vegan wedding! We had a big party with 30 of our friends and we also brought along Anna to the party that evening!
It has been 2 years for our marriage. We also had a wedding ceremony in India with all our family and friends. It seems like a movie- We met within 20 days of matching on Veggly, met each other’s parents within that first week and 3 months later we were married in Sweden. 1 year later, I moved to Sweden on a dependent visa. We matched and started chatting on Jan 1st 2023, Karthu flew to India to meet me on Jan 21st, and we got married on June 1st 2023. It’s been 2 years and we are so happy and blessed together. I and Karthu have been so in-sync with our journeys even before we met each other, we were destined to be together!
